Germination Stage: Planting Seeds of Potential
The germination stage marks the genesis of our cannabis plants’ journey. It begins with the selection of mature seeds, distinguished by their dry, hard exterior and earthy hues. These seeds are carefully placed in a moist and dark environment, where they undergo a transformative process. Within 24 hours to two weeks, the magic unfolds as the seeds sprout, sending forth a taproot and two round cotyledon leaves. The cotyledon leaves help break open the seed coat so that the seed can sprout. This emergence from darkness symbolizes the dawn of new life, as our plants prepare to embark on their journey towards maturity.
Seedling Stage: Nurturing Tender Shoots
With the first signs of life, our cannabis plants enter the seedling stage, a period characterized by rapid growth and development. Over two to three weeks, the seedlings’ root systems deepen, anchoring them firmly in the nutrient-rich soil. Meanwhile, traditional fan leaves unfurl, signaling the plant’s vitality and vigor. To ensure optimal growth, we maintain a clean and controlled environment, with temperatures ranging between 68°F and 77°F and humidity levels between 50% and 70%. Nitrogen-based fertilizers and careful watering nurture the seedlings, while ample light – 16 to 24 hours – fosters robust photosynthesis and leaf expansion. As the seedlings mature, they emerge with a distinct vibrancy, short stature, and bright green hue, heralding the promise of a bountiful harvest to come.
Vegetative Stage: A Flourishing Ascent
Entering the vegetative stage, our cannabis plants undergo a period of exponential growth and expansion. Over two to eight weeks, or even longer, the plants thrive under optimal conditions, with additional nutrients, carbon dioxide, and abundant light.
As the stem thickens and more nodes, branches, and leaves emerge, the plants take on the characteristic appearance of cannabis. Nitrogen and potassium-rich fertilizers sustain vigorous growth, while a humidity range of 50% to 70% and temperatures between 68°F and 77°F provide an ideal environment for flourishing. During this stage, the plants reveal their genetic heritage, with Sativas stretching tall and thin, and Indicas denser with leaves and shorter in stature. Crucially, the vegetative stage also allows growers to determine the sex of the plants – removing males to prevent pollination and maintain purity in the yield.
